When the luxury section opened up at Phoenix, the mall was beautifully decorated to attract the visitors. People tend to take photos with the advent of new embellishments that come up so that they can post the latest updates on Social media. We took take photos but don’t normally update the same in Social media. It’s one of the ways to keep the visitors engaged, connected to the mall and make them come back for more such surprises and new developments. Everyone likes to see some changes in their lives, new additions, alternations to existing set ups, structures that just adds a bit of sparkle to their otherwise morbid life. Our visits were more from a window shopping, some photos for remembrance and lunch or snacking so that both the lady and the kiddo feel relaxed and away from the daily chores of their lives for a while at least. And perhaps some kind of family time together as we roam about aimlessly from shop to shop in an ambivalent mode without any rhyme, reason or purpose. It also gives you an chance to wear your new or best clothes, feel and look good in the latest outfits.
Roll back a few decades and all you had to do on a weekend was to get up late in the morning, saunter around lazily until your Mom chides you to complete your morning chores as breakfast time will soon be over. It still happens with the next generation. Then it’s either reading books or listening to music until noon time for lunch. I guess in the afternoon it’s time for a nap during late 20’s and by evening you go out to see your friends for some meandering walks, rubbish talks and some snacking along the way and by night time it’s time to return home for dinner and roll into your bed. If you were in your early teens then after lunch around 3-4 PM you go out seeing your friends for some kind of road side games despite the sweltering heat. if you were in your late teens, you are buried in your books studying for your boards. Life was just about that….option 1, 2 or 3 and maybe max 4. All you had to do was to choose one among the limited options. Decision making made easy.
Now you really don’t know what to do. Do I visit this mall or the other one. Which one is farther away? What’s different in this mall over the other one? We had recently been to this mall, so why should we go there again? After a certain age, once you have your lunch, your eyes drool, you have a dizzy head, legs become unsteady, hands shake and your heart cries out, how much this body aches to stretch itself out and take a lovely afternoon nap. You justify yourself saying, after all the week’s hard work, this body needs some rest after all during the weekend. Your darling wife will rumble on, after cooking, cleaning and doing all kinds of work through the week, I deserve a break from the routine. Your kiddo will scream I don’t want to touch any book now….let’s hang out….well…you got to find some ilk of your own kind soon son. Everyone has their own version that justifies what they need. Where do they all converge then. Simple, you give in and do what the family asks of you…..after all you do everything what you do only for them and if you cannot keep them happy at the end of the day, what’s the purpose of it all…..won’t you agree…..sacrifices should be mutual…..my darling wife would not agree and say that it’s always been a one way traffic with me…..just meeting my demands, moods and expectations…..well…..you have go give in….no arguments please.
