Dr. Lotfy

We both believe this guy was born to treat kids. And Anirud loved him too…as you can see from the photo. He had many pictures from the kids who had drawn something special for him. He was so good with the kids that he was a favorite among both Arabs as well as the Expat population. Of course, he does not come cheap as you need to pay KD 20 as consultation charges for every visit. It did not pinch me much as I had it covered through insurance and I had to also contribute towards it on a monthly basis. In addition, you need to wait at least an hour before you get to see him. There was always a rush. The clinics in Kuwait were truly classy. They were big with multiple rooms and the seating area would have many kid friendly items for them to touch, play or to keep them engaged. What we liked about him was that he was so genial, humble and patient. He was well educated, polite and extremely courteous. You might say that these are pre-requisites for any Doctor and that too an essential for a Children’s doctor. I would tend to agree, but the point is it’s like everyone liked him, parents, kids and ask anyone of your friends or their kids….they would say Dr. Lotfy….I love him. It’s like this, though we know what medication to give when he has a cold or mild fever, which even he might suggest, it would not subside until we pay him a visit. This guy has to see the Dr. to get cured. He would never give strong antibiotics or medication to start with. It would always be the normal medicines and if the fever or cold persist then he would advise something stronger…and that too rarely.

The only time when Anirud scared the daylights out of us was when he had to be admitted in the hospital for a couple of days. That particular season was filled with rampant flu across the board and first it was Anand’s son, then Balu’s daughter and then our son….one after another following the footsteps to get admitted in the hospital. Fortunately all the kids came through without much of an issue. But it’s always a scary thing when you have to admit someone in the hospital. All the more when it has to be your young kid. You just cannot bear the agony of that….it’s mentally nerve wrecking until you are out of the woods.
