Unlike most others, I have not really written a long or appreciative email to him/her in the last few years though he/she has been working with me on various activities. Mainly because, he/she is a private person and prefers not to indulge him/herself being a public face or being in the forefront, except on the work front. Hence, giving due credence to his/her feelings, I have copied you all in BCC so that you can communicate individually as per his/her preference.
That said, most of you may have worked with him/her closely in the last several years and some of you are a new acquaintance as part of the new org structure. I am breaking the shackles a bit here but then, one has to know what the other person is, as an individual and also their capabilities. What better time than when that individual has spent 10 long years in one Organization.
Congratulations would be an odd word as he/she has seen/received several accolades in his/her stellar career, as it has become more of a norm. In his/her fabulous career, he/she has seen many a system implementations, process changes, improvements, analytical reports, insights and countless other things. Therefore, I am not going to talk about all of these various accomplishments today.
The individual unique traits, characteristics and facades draw my attention to them. It is interesting to understand the dynamics and power of human psyche. How much you can either empower or keep them fettered. It goes to show that when you tap something the right way, it can produce wonders. It is applicable for anything, everything and Humans included. It is the power of thought and belief. Once you keep it embellished within yourself, you can definitely do wonders.
Frailties exist in every individual as in a balance scale, however, so long as the positives outweigh the negatives and the negatives are neither harmful to the individual per se and to others, that’s the ideal version you can get to see. Our job as a Manager, Leader, Mentor or any other role that we play is how you can fine tune the infirmities and make it perfect.
I am just laying down some of the positive and vibrant personae that he/she exhibits. I never liked comparisons and every individual is different from the others. This is not an appraisal session for what someone has done all through these years. Rather, I would like to characterize what that person is all about as it is important to know and understand a person for what they are and what values they represent?
If there were one singular attribute that I would like to distinguish and call out, then that would be “Tenacity”.
No matter, how difficult the situation, work content, complexity, time pressure or any kind of obstacle, he/she has the will to break through and get the results that you need. That is what make “winners” stand out from others. They cherish and love to fight and win, especially when the odds are stacked against them. And the whole world desperately watches with bated breath, he/she does not have the energy or wherewithal to fight it out anymore… and now he/she is going to drop dead but alas…he/she rises yet again like a phoenix. To the surprise and angst of many naysayers.
The other notable characteristics would be dependability, accuracy, dynamism, disciplined, attentive with a voracious appetite for learning, positive attitude and most importantly Trustworthy.
If I can briefly elaborate each of these traits,
- Assign a task and lay down your expected outcome. There is no need for you to follow through; you will get what you want. In addition, something more with a personalized touch of value added input.
- I keep telling everyone that I work with that we are Accountants foremost and Analysts subsequently. Therefore, any data that you present needs to be precise to the last decimal. Sometimes, when there is overwhelming amount of data, even I tend to rationalize by taking an approximation approach. Nevertheless, he/she would still insist on poring over the data in detail until he/she is thoroughly satisfied that it represents the true scenario. That is the level of precision; I have come to become accustomed over the last few years now.
- The eclectic energy he/she brings is quite electric indeed. It truly vitalizes the entire team to aim for the moon, even if it seems impossible. At least, let us try it. To lose and accept failure without trying is tantamount to suicide in his/her opinion.
- Extremely organized in the way in which he/she approaches any subject, work, presentation or discussion with team members or outside folks. He/She is meticulous and prepares him/herself for the points of discussion and aims to close it with a conclusive solution oriented approach rather than keeping it open-ended. High degree of problem solving mentality, which drives positivity within and outside the group.
- Learning in my opinion is a continuous process and is never ending until your last breath. There is so much to learn, every moment all through the day and night. All you have to do is to keep not just your ears and eyes open but also your brain and or heart….to let that breath of fresh air into you….so that you breathe out a new life. That is the most important aspect for a human beings continued development and enrichment in all aspects. He/She reverberates my thoughts wholeheartedly. Learning never ceases and there is nothing small or big about anything you do…what matters is how committed, deeply are you involved in what you do and willing to give it your best shot time after time until you feel you have reached the zenith in that sphere.
- One may possess great amount of knowledge, but if one does not exhibit the right attitude then that person can never become a leader cherished by the masses. The approach and outlook towards life and people can never be one of insolence, but of kindness, warmth and welcoming in nature. You need to encompass and embrace everyone with equanimity and poise. That may not make you a king or queen in terms of position…but you would be the king or queen in the hearts of everyone. Moreover, to me that’s the true sign of success as everyone needs to remember you for what you are, did, do and continue to do so…in the right spirit that’s akin to all.
- It may come last, but it is the most important virtue of all. To be honest, upright and straightforward in whatever you do, speak and exhibit tells more about the person than every other aspect that I had mentioned. This will make or break you. Life is but a circle and I come back to what I started as the first point…how dependable you are stems from the fact not just in terms of caliber but more from the candidness and openness one displays internally and externally. To me that is the no. one virtue in one’s life to have a peaceful life.
