Hamilton’s Mercedes

In the past one year, Anirud is totally hooked into F1 racing. As I used to watch the race over the weekend, he joined along with me and found it engaging and interesting. The moot point though, is the amount of time he spent understanding about the races, race drivers, and teams, history of various teams and how it evolved over the last few decades at least. He is definitely much more knowledgeable than any casual F1 viewer. I am sure many would agree that Mercedes and Hamilton dominate racing since the hybrid era over the last 7 / 8 seasons. And especially this year, it has been one way street with none of the cars even coming anyway closer to Mercedes. It is like everyone is completely resigned as to who will take the first two positions and fighting for the remaining slots. Even Redbull is no match to the Mercedes power and Ferrari messed up and doing worse when it comes to power and performance this year. What a disappointment and disengaging for viewers who would like to see some real close races. Invariably, Anirud likes to see Hamilton fade away and see the rise of Max or George in future. Now that I am a die-hard Ferrari fan, I would like to see Charles fight for the top slots with Max in future hoping that with the new rules from 2022, it will be the fastest and best drivers who show their skills than the sheer power of the car.

Especially, when you see the old videos of Senna, Michael and other fascinating drivers of 90’s who extracted the maximum out of their cars, despite safety and other issues during that period. It was competitive and anybody on their day could win. It was a combination of Man and Machine where the top drivers had to use their extraordinary driving skills to beat their fellow drivers and Championships were decided on the last race of the season unlike now where Hamilton wins it so comfortably without any competition whatsoever. It’s just dull and boring. There is absolutely no fun in watching the races these days until there is some incident or rain in the race that makes it competitive.
