I don’t remember when exactly he started doing this but sometime after 1 1/2 years I guess. He started to turn and keep the upright tricycle sideways, which his Grandpa had bought, to rotate the wheel constantly as if he was driving a car. His legs would go across the bar and he would start off like a racing driver. The worst part was that even the other bigger seated tricycle which we had bought in Kuwait also was put to the same kind of use. It would send us crazy and we used to wonder how to make him kick the habit. Finally, one fine day she disposed off the tricycle so that he would not notice it or cry for it. We really could not decipher what made him do what he did. Maybe he dreamt of designing and driving a car that would be as per his aspiration. Or he was navigating a ship in the mid seas. Or he was flying an airplane soaring across the skies. Why think big…let’s be connected to our roots….learning pottery. Whatever it be, it was not certainly normal and quite unusual for a Kid to play using his tricycle in this manner. Quirky habits of the kids that may have some rhyme or reason but not fathomable to us certainly. But every strange thing comes to an end some day and so it did….but it’s funny to retrace it back after so many years and see what all you have done as part of your growing up, ain’t it. When he grows up, let him provide a rationale as to why he did what he did….or it can simply be…it was fun…nothing more, nothing less. Why make an issue or statement out of it.
