Born to stand out

The first question that arises in my mind is how do you do that. Second question is what do you mean by standing out? Are you trying to be a rebel? Not following the dictum or stated dogmas of life. In general most of us are brought up in a traditional manner. This is mainly for Indian middle class families. The main focus is on education. It’s either Science or Commerce with some variations within those main streams. Other activities are considered mostly as hobbies and not for earning a livelihood. Today some of these taboos are being broken. However, these people come mostly from under privileged backgrounds with an aspirational intent to break into the mainstream. These are the outliers or exceptional performers. They are the ones that truly fit the bill and stand out of the crowd. And then there are exceptions in the highly educated category or the one’s born with true blue entrepreneurial spirit. These new age boomers who are mostly in their late 20’s or 30’s have a lot of risk appetite to succeed in life at the highest level. Again these will be in a significant minority but it’s a change that’s happening now and I expect it to continue evermore on the years to come. Perhaps the advent of 21st century has opened up a new vistas for the youngsters who want to leave their footprints as a legacy of their life. I truly welcome and embrace that change. It’s perhaps partly because my generation has stepped up a bit during the IT revolution and made a step forward in terms of financial stability which was not there with our Dads and Mom’s. Their era was more regulated and the economy was closed for many opportunities. Given the limited options all they could do was on providing basic food, shelter and education. When things opened up in our generation it was a step up in life. Since we could provide some amount of stability in life it’s now time for the next generation to forge ahead in their chosen path. I guess the next generation would produce much more entrepreneurs, sports legends, artists and craftsmen which were not the norm in India at least.
