Rain

Monsoon rains especially in a hot and humid Chennai is like a whiff of soothing cool breeze. You simply fall in love with the rain drops and you can just sit and marinade yourself in that breathtaking sight for hours together without doing anything.  It’s a mesmerizing spectacle in action, like millions of synchronized dancers swinging to natures beat at once. This is a spellbinding spectacle to behold and engross yourself in those enthralling moments for eternity. They bring to life, the parched souls that are in absolute despair at once. All of a sudden, you feel there is a breath of freshness in the air. The trees sway and come alive with their green leaves sparkling with globules floating through them. The ground beneath, scorched by the heat of the sun, now respires with the smell of raindrops.

Young children would like to get themselves wet and play in the puddles splashing water at each other. Make paper boats and let them float in the small meres. It’s they who actually connect with nature directly and enjoy the moments, however transient it maybe. Perhaps, I love rains, because it lasts only for a few days or weeks across a couple of months in Chennai. Rest of the months, it is only hot, hotter and hottest. So rain actually brings respite from the heat and makes you feel elevated, cool and pleasant, both internally and externally. Whenever there is a sight of dark looming clouds, it brings a great amount of cheer, here comes the rain. You welcome it with open arms and wish to drench yourselves feeling clean and cool all at once.

I am sure most of us Indians love the thought of having hot pakodas and ginger, elaichi tea at the sight of rain. Read a book as the rain splatters across the window or watch a romantic movie with your beloved. Or just plain lie lazy in the bed and listen to the splashing sound of rain and favorite music streaming from your music player. Play board games or cards with family members, gossiping about some random stuff. Rain, in brief relaxes and soothes your body, mind, nerves and soul like nothing else. The sight of looming and hovering dark clouds brings a smile to the face, spark in the eyes, and lilt in the foot, wave in the hands and song in the lips.

I always dreamed about going on a long drive in my car with my lady love and lilting music to make you float in the air. She loves it too and keeps telling me we should go on a drive when it is raining. Drive through the rain with outstretched arms as the gobbets fall on your hand is sheer exhilaration. Or you just want to sit on a bench and watch the rain holding the hand of your beloved. Driving through the coastline or on a terrain like Mumbai-Pune or Goa expressway during Monsoon would be an awesome experience. When you pause midway to catch glimpses of rain drops falling from trees and skating over the leaves you feel as though a beautiful nymph is dancing right in front of you. When you watch the rains from the hillside you realize how the heavens are blessing us mortals and cleansing our sins through rain drops.  These are pure and unfiltered offerings from the heavens above. It has nothing mixed and adulterated like what humans create in our world.

The rainbow colors after the rains is an amazing creation of God. It’s magical, surreal and is an entrancing sight to behold. There is absolutely no match to this spectacle from the sky.

When you soak yourself wet in rains you can feel a deluge of emotions cruising through your veins that you have never felt before. Washing away of all the ills plaguing one for a long time. You feel refreshed, revitalized and re energized to take a leap forward and move on with your life.  The droplets falling on your face, hands and legs seem to say, come and dance with me, forget the anguish that is bothering you, I am here to help you out of your misery to feel light like a feather and float in the air to a faraway land where you can find answers to the questions you are seeking. Come and fall in love with me for us to dance our way to glory.
