Basketball player

It was a Saturday morning and we were all set to go out for some weekend shopping on usual necessities. Once we got Anirud ready to go out he started playing with his new found basket ball and was tossing it all around the place like a true blue basketball player. Sometimes it turned into a football too…I have played many kind of games in my childhood and also during adolescence with my own age group of friends, girls and boys and sometimes boys who were older than me too in the streets of Chennai. I certainly do not remember what I did at his age. When kids don’t have brothers or sisters it’s difficult to keep them engaged on any particular set of activities. I used to grow up with my brother and cousins and Vidya had her fair share of sisters, brother and cousins while growing up. That way Anirud misses not having a sibling and stated that he needs a brother many a times. He finds girls complicated, even at this age and prefers boys. Boy he’s going to have some tough times in the years to come.

Fast forward 10 years, life has changed a lot over the years in terms of place, facilities, friends circle, schooling, mental and physical growth. Strangely he drew this picture after almost 10 years now as he was inspired after watching the Netflix series – The Last Dance featuring Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Life has a strange twist in the tale and we won’t be able to connect the dots now….I don’t think he is going to be a basketball player, as he is not really that much into sports, it’s more of a pastime really for him. Now that we are back in India, he is able to play games outdoors with kids of his age and those slightly older than him. Incidentally, the association also installed a basketball set up in between the building blocks for the kids to play as everyone stays at home this year due to COVID. So there is this transition from indoors to outdoors in 10 years time. However, what he will turn out to be, only time will tell…until then….
