We can’t believe Anirud is turning ten
With him beside us time has just flown
Like a shining star he has in our lives, glown
And brought life and light in our smoldering den
Cherubic as a child he was always cheerful
And everyone around him was held captive
By his innocent sparkling eyes, evocative
Of lives bygone, forgotten yet so beautiful
He’s always been a child attentive
Yet may seem to be at times presumptuous
It could be because he is inquisitive
But by heart and nature innocuous
A voracious appetite for reading
An immense passion for drawing
His head and heart is engrossed by his fascination
For what he loves to do with absolute imagination
As he steps up into a new phase of life
He’ll have to pass through quagmire and strife
And here’s where as experienced parents it’s a tough act to balance
As we need to nudge, cajole and navigate him through life’s various nuances
It truly is a mighty challenge to bring up a child
And make him a complete human in a world that is just wild
Replete with altruistic value system and simplicity
Where you thrust and thrive on gargantuan monstrosity
As you ponder and weigh your thoughts on such aspects
You are worried about the realization of prospects
That are both in and also not in your control to steer
Depending on how you perceive life’s imbroglios for you to veer
Kudos to our selfless parents who have shed blood and tears
To rear us despite several odds and battling unknown fears
Don’t we owe them to infuse life into this generation
That will not lead a life of altercation
But live to build a livelier nation
That doesn’t fight for all kinds of ration
Based on various manmade maxims and boundaries
It creates a stifling wall amongst fellow beings as they grow into adulthood facing these dictums and life’s vagaries
It seems so Herculean, in our imagination
Yet that’s what we have been through and still standing tall
So let’s pass the baton to this vibrant and vivacious generation
And let them break the barriers and human wall
Here’s wishing the little gem in our lives that sparkled our life and made it richer, livelier, beautiful and truly worth living…a life that he dreams of, yet humane, genteel and simple in every element of life.
