…Stepping into this world…

12th May 2008, 4.08 AM – Anirud…joined us from the cozy comfort of his mother’s womb. Srividya…delivered petite Anirud after languishing in labor pain from midnight.
We admitted her in Mamata Maternity Clinic on the 11th morning after she developed intermittent pains. But since it was not continuous, the doc asked us to go back home and come to the clinic next day. But she started having pain from midnight and we had to rush her to the hospital the same night. Ambi Mama brought his car and myself, mami, vydehi and kannan went to the hospital. Only ladies were allowed to stay in the hospital and I had to return home with Kannan.
Around 4.30 AM we were informed that boy was born. The first thing I asked Vydehi was how my lady is doing. I was more worried about her, she had a tough time, but she endured and delivered. Until that time we did not know whether it was a boy or a girl. Vidya wanted it to be a surprise and surprise it was indeed as we were expecting or rather wanting a girl but God meant it to be otherwise. A child is a child nevertheless and it’s your own flesh and blood.
Myself, Kannan and Srihari went to the hospital by 5.00 AM and we were allowed to see the child by 5.30 AM. He was tightly wrapped in a cloth and sleeping on a table. He was all peace and calm, when he was sleeping. Every child is like that ain’t it. Vidya was given anesthesia for removal of plasma and hence she was half asleep. She was tired and exhausted having delivered the baby. Having seen our baby, I called Vidya if she would recognize my voice. She did and asked me something…that would remain between the two of us…whatever he grows up to he is ours and we want him to grow up into an individual with good social and moral values and not be colored by anything.
As they truly say, life after delivery is your next life. Praise the lord, doctors and nurses for the noble work they do. Despite all the issues…she developed veezing, the umbilical cord entwined the baby and the baby passed motion inside the womb…the doctor…was amazingly patient to ensure that she delivered the baby in a normal way. It was a great feeling for both of us…to become mother and father…words can scarcely describe the feeling.
It was time to pronounce to the whole world that we have become …Parents...

This is where the kiddo was born. The Doc was an aged person but well experienced. The main thing was dependability, patience and commitment to profession. Despite the complications he did not opt for caesarian and performed a normal delivery. That was truly remarkable in today’s world where C section becomes the preferred option for Patient, Doctors and the Hospital for ease of delivery and fast money. If I remember correctly, I ended up paying about 50 to 60 thousand rupees for the delivery which would cost upwards of a lakh had it been in a big fancy hospital and perhaps 2 in the case of C section. Forget the fact whether I paid or am capable of paying or my company would reimburse me for the expense, it is a question of ethics from a Doctor’s profession and how many true people are there to uphold the virtues to date. Anyway, for us…it all ended up fine, though she went through a lot of labor pain, screamed, shouted, kicked and I guess furious with everyone….but eventually she made it through and Anirud breathed life into all of us once again….Praise the Lord...
